We are between Biggleswade and St. Neots, 1.5 miles
north of Sandy and half a mile off the A1.
If you are coming south down the A1, the method of
access to Blunham has changed recently. After you have gone round
the Bedford A421 roundabout (The "Black Cat Roundabout"),
there is a long left hand bend and then a long right hand bend.
You need to turn off the A1 just before the end of the right
hand bend (signed, among others, Blunham). Having turned left
off the A1, give way at the T junction and turn right to go south
parallel with the A1 (this road is not shown on the map above).
Follow this road past Tempsford (East) and on to the roundabout.
Turn right, over the A1, then left at the next roundabout and
down to the "T" junction where you should turn right
onto Tempsford Road (see map below).
If you are coming north up the A1, after you have
left Sandy, you need to be in the left hand lane of the dual-carriageway,
as you need to turn left off the A1 to Blunham. About 500yards
you have passed the Esso station on the left you will see signs
for Blunham. There is now a nice "run-in" with space
to slow down before turning left. This puts you in Tempsford
Road - see map below.
If you are coming from the direction
of Bedford, take either the A421/A428 towards Cambridge, or the
A603 to Sandy road, whichever is the most convenient.
A421/A428: take the Cambridge direction
from Bedford and follow the road about 5 miles until you come
to Great Barford. Beware the speed cameras in Great Barford!
Just past the Pelican crossing lights there is a cross roads.
Take the right hand turn (it is signposted Blunham), and follow
the road through the village, straight over the traffic light
controlled bridge and straight on to Blunham. This puts
you on to Barford Road, Blunham.
A603: Head towards Sandy. When you
come to the village of Willington (50mph, then 40mph limits)
and have passed the shop on the right you will come to a sharp
right-hand corner which is a cross roads. At this cross roads
you need to take the Great Barford road which is the slightly
left turn (mind the bollards!). At the traffic light controlled
bridge, turn right (i.e. don't go over the bridge), and continue
on to Blunham. This puts you on to Barford Road, Blunham.
If you came from the A1 on to Tempsford road go slowly
over the hump-back bridges! Just after the 30mph limit you
will see a right turn at a "triangle" (see map above).
Take this turn carefully and proceed down Grange Road until you
come to Maltings Farm (see photo above).
If you go into Blunham on Barford Road, just follow the road
down The Hill, round the sharp left hand bend near the pubs and
continue on until the road bears right. At this point keep left
(straight on - see map) and go down Grange Road until you come
to Maltings Farm (see photo above).
